Inlays & Onlays
Inlays and Onlays are restorations whose properties place them somewhere between filling and crown. The technique of making them is similar to crown’s. A dentist will do the drilling and send your impressions to a dental lab. However, they do not cover the entire tooth as crowns do. They are used in cases where the cavity is too large to have a regular filling. Those filings would be too large and not physically strong enough. In cases where tooth decay is large, it is advised to set inlay or onlay. These restorations will last much longer than a regular filing on your tooth.
Materials used for making inlay and onlay are ceramic, composites or gold. Gold is not used often because most patients don’t want their restorations to be seen. Because of this, the ceramic and composite inlay and onlay are excellent choices. By their color and shape, they will fit perfectly into your tooth. Depending on your case, after reviewing and analyzing, we will propose to you what is the best choice for you. Sometimes it’s better to invest a little more time and money in these restorations, but you will be satisfied for many years.
